Film StudiesFilm Studies AS and A2

Minimum requirement:

At least a C in English plus a high level of enthusiasm for films. You must have the ability to think beyond the standard approach of 'I like this bit, I hate that bit'!

Are films works of art? How do films attract an audience? What hidden meanings lie beneath the surface of a movie?

Film Studies offers you the chance to discover why films are the way they are. By concentrating on a wide variety of genres, directors and national cinemas, the intention is to create a true understanding of films in addition to what is needed to create them.

Assessment:

In both AS and A2 you complete a piece a coursework, including storyboarding, screenwriting and film making. In each year you will also complete two exams on a variety of theories and topics.

Outcome:

A far greater understanding and enjoyment of a wide variety of films is cited by graduates of the course. Many have gone on to study film at the finest universities for Film Studies. Some have joined the film and television industry.

Trips and Things

Attend screenings of films and lectures at Cinema City, Norwich

Think you are the next Steven Spielberg? We give you the chance to prove it. Make your own short films and music videos using the latest equipment.

Conduct your own research. Does violence on TV really affect children? Why is Tarantino so famous? How do people use body language to communicate?

Media, Film and Communication Studies are arts based subjects so written work is involved. They are also creative, and thought-provoking.
